OpenStack Summit Tokyo: Vote for Our Speaking Sessions

Big Switch, our customers and partners have submitted speaking sessions for OpenStack Summit Tokyo, Oct 27-30. Below is an overview of our proposed speaking submissions, please help us bring these to life by voting via the links below. The voting period is open until Thurs. July 30 @ 11:59 PST.

Session: Unified OpenStack Networking for Physical & Virtual Switches: Sharing Experiences & Lessons Learned with Big Switch founder

Speakers: Satish Salagme (Flextronics), KC Wang (Clemson University), Christian Sarrasin (CleanSafeCloud), Kyle Forster (Big Switch Networks),

About Session: OpenStack Networking has come a long way in just a few years. The open questions from the last few cycles are being replaced by in-depth conversations about real life deployment experiences – at enterprises of all sizes and scales. In this session, we will discuss the OpenStack network deployment experiences of three different enterprise-scale data centers, showcasing OpenStack, SDN software and bare metal switching hardware.

Session: Neutron Scaling and Resiliency with Mirantis OpenStack and Big Switch P+V SDN Fabrics

Speakers: Prashant Gandhi, Big Switch Networks, Jason Venner, Mirantis

About Session: With OpenStack and SDN adoption accelerating in mainstream production-grade deployments, two key concerns customers have are building a scalable and resilient Neutron network infrastructure in a production OpenStack environment, and measuring the resilience of Neutron-based networks at scale. In this session, we will show how we achieved scale and resilience in Neutron to tens of thousands of end-points at line rate.

Session: Telco OpenStack Cloud Deployment with Red Hat and Big Switch Networking

Speakers:  Paul Lancaster (Red Hat), Prashant Gandhi (Big Switch Networks)

About Session: Telco providers are demanding to drive down cloud infrastructure costs and operational complexity in order to compete head-to-head with cloud titans. They are turning to OpenStack-based solutions for commodity economics that also promises agility and operational simplicity.  In this session, we will talk about a specific use case of a telecom customer who is leveraging an OpenStack-based SDN fabric solution to build out a production-grade cloud.

Session: Let’s Unite! (Physical + Virtual == Unified OpenStack Networking -- Hands-on lab)

Speakers: Sunit Chauhan & Syed Ghayur (Big Switch Networks)

About Session: Confused about Physical or Virtual Networking for you OpenStack Data Center?  How about a Unified Physical + Virtual approach? If you have struggled with the challenges of provisioning, managing and troubleshooting your physical networking infrastructure and virtual switching infrastructure, you will want to attend this session. What you really need is a single pane of glass to manage ALL of your data center networking... In this presentation, speakers will showcase hyperscale-style data center networking using an online OpenStack lab to provision, manage and debug OpenStack Networks from the Horizon GUI.  Attendees will have the option to follow along in their own privately provisioned lab infrastructure.

Session: LBaaS-integrated SDN Clos Fabric Solution for Application Scaling in OpenStack

Speakers: Doug Wiegley (A10 Networks), Prashant Gandhi (Big Switch Networks)

About Session: As OpenStack adoption is accelerating in enterprises and service providers, users require a modern network infrastructure at L2-L3 and L4-7 layers. In this session, we will discuss merits of A10 Networks’ load balancing as a service (LBaaS) -- an advanced service within OpenStack Neutron -- integrated with Big Switch’s SDN Clos fabric for delivering agile and cost-optimized L2-L7 solution for OpenStack clouds.

Session: Open SDN Fabric as Powerful Underlay for OpenStack to Solve Key Traditional Network Infrastructure Challenges (with Dell)

Speakers: Raghupathy N (Dell), Nobo Akiya (Big Switch Networks)

About Session: One of the primary purpose of a network is to provide a service of reliably delivering data from senders to receivers. In many networks, unfortunately and from time to time, service outages have occurred, caused by SW bugs, timing issues, exhaustion of resources, HW problems, etc. In this session, we will discuss:

  • How an open SDN fabric provides an automated network configuration, device management and seamless integration with OpenStack environments.

  • Common failures of traditional networks: control plane and data plane disconnect.

  • How an open SDN fabric can provide improved visibility and debuggability in data center networks.

  • IETF activities, BFD for VXLAN to validate VNI programming, LIME for being able to go up/down layers.

  • Failure points which are difficult to detect today: VMs, Containers, Services.
